Titre : | The impact of malnutrition on immune defense in parasitic infestation | Type de document : | texte imprimé | Auteurs : | H. Isliker ; B. Schurch | Editeur : | Hans Huber bern | Année de publication : | 1981 | Importance : | 199p | Présentation : | ill., couv. ill. en coul | Format : | 23 x 15.5 cm | ISBN/ISSN/EAN : | 978-3-456-81110-9 | Langues : | Anglais (eng) | Mots-clés : | immunity malnutrition parasites | Résumé : | This collection of papers is divided into 4 sections: malnutrition and non-specific defence mechanisms; malnutrition and specific defence mechanisms; the present status of the analyses of immunodeficiencies; malnutrition and immunity to protozoan parasites. Each section contains 2 or 3 papers, most of which set out the current research status of the topic, followed by a summary of the ensuing discussion.
The main value of this collection is that it brings together a large amount of experimental and observational data from some fairly disparate disciplines. The editors have wisely incorporated an index and glossary, but it still remains difficult to see the wood for the trees, and the overgrowth of oversimplifications and conflicting statements on the effects of malnutrition on immune response and parasitic infection underline the necessity for continuing research effort in this area. The opinions of the Workshop as to the priorities for such future research are set out as a number of questions. This volume undoubtedly provides a valuable source for all those attempting to provide answers in this difficult area. |
